SOHAM DEY : This season has been a season defined by unnecessary lapses , shocking defeats for the reigning double champions of England Chelsea fc.After winning the double last season under the able guidance of the Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti Chelsea Fc were finally looking like a team which has over come the pangs of seperation from their Cult hero Jose Mourinho moving on to reclaim the glory of winning the Premier League once again.
But this season the story totally changed. Expected to be the front runners in successfully defending their premier league crown Chelsea Fc started like the true champions winning back to back matches with a six goal margine against West Bromwich and Wigan Athletic. Things were looking good until the winter time arrived which rang the bells of the dampening clouds that surrounded the team when they were lost against top teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and oppositions like Sunderland, Birmingham City being held against teams like Newcastle, Everton thus losing their ground in being the pacesetters to the league allowing Manchester United to build on their unbeaten start to the season in the League taking the first position. As the current scenario stands Chelsea Fc are currently in the third position eleven points adrift of the leaders Manchested United and it looks like an uphill task to dethrone the red devils in claiming the trophy back to Old Trafford once again. The unfortunate run of Chelsea Fc ended in both the domestic cups when they were knocked out by Newcastle United in the Carling Cup and their defence of the Fa cup looking to complete a hattrick of the oldest club competition in the world was stopped when they were defeated in penalties by the ever ambitious boys of David Moyes Everton. The knife was finally stabbed to the heart when the long desire of the owner Roman Abramovich to see Chelsea celebration amidst the joyous anthem by winning the Champions League was brought to a tragic end by their signature rivals in the last decade Manchester United. The winter saw Chelsea proving their ambition once again in the transfer market with a 70 million spending spree capturing Fernando Torres from Liverpool and David Luiz from Benfica but that also failed to produce a spark in a season marked by unfortunate results. The only thing left to play for The Pensioners is to earn a place in the next season’s Champions League finishing in the top four. For this reason it was time for the players to have their say regarding the future of the team and the result was a request to Roman Abramovich to bury the hatchet and bring back the man Chelsea considers to be the most important in making them a force worlwide – Jose Mourinho. Mourinho was the person who brought the feeling of unity in a team which was starting to ignite like a volcano amidst the scenario of world football.Chelsea enjoyed some of their historic moments under the reign of the Special One like winning the Premier League after fifty long awaited years, reaching the Champions League semi finals twice, winning the Carling Cup twice and claiming the Fa Cup gold as the first team to conquer the new Wembley. Filling up the trophy cabinet was added with the extra motivation of keeping a home record that rivals would be proud of making Stamford Bridge a fortress. Thus the three magnificent years under Mourinho not only enabled him assume the status of a god among the Chelsea faithfuls but rightfully earned his place as the most successful manager in the history of the club .Since his sad departure Chelsea Fc has been lacking the same passion that once enabled them to give their rivals a run for their money. Stamford Bridge is no longer the fortress people once knew losing to teams that was once thought impossible and the trophy cabinet have also been filling up slowly winning just 4 trophies in the next three seasons with one trophyless campaign soon to be added by another this year. Managers have come and left as they failed to produce the spark that once enable the Blues to be a mighty force in England and abroad. The current manager is also in the firing line after failing to live up to the expectations of the owner and following the impressive double winning campaign with a trophy drought that is coming to haunt the Chelsea supporters as they will overcome a season in which they would have done so much but didn’t do that much. Amidst the tension and insecured air round the club who better to lift their ambition and spirits than their old godfather himself . Mourinho always have shown the love he still holds for the club while the players of Chelsea have shown their need to have him back in the Stamford Bridge dugout with the long coats , designer trousers and trademark passion for the club. There is still an unfinished business left as Mourinho dint touch the silverware that every Chelsea fans wants to see him lift it for the club, the long coveted obsession for the owner - The UEFA Champions League. The current season looking very strong to dethrone Carlo Ancelotti from the hotseat will be filled with jewels once again if Mourinho finally returns to the temple where everyone still worships him.

Japan's football association said Thursday it would take part in the Copa America, reversing an earlier decision to withdraw from the event in the aftermath of a massive earthquake and tsunami.
Japan Football Association vice president Kozo Tashima told a news conference: "We as the Japan Football Association reached the conclusion today that we will take part in the Copa America." "We are preparing to send a letter to the South American Football Confederation about our participation." The March 11 twin disasters severely damaged a nuclear power plant in the country's northeast, causing widespread electricity cuts that forced the temporary suspension of the J-League. The league has rescheduled its backlogged fixtures to be played during a break in July, which clashes with the South American championship, where Asian champions Japan are invited as non-member guests along with Mexico. J-League clubs have said they are opposed to sending top players to the July 1-24 Copa America in Argentina. But the Japan Football Association decided at an executive meeting Thursday that it would send a squad mostly made up of Europe-based players who will be having a pre-season break in July, an association official said. JFA president Junji Ogura said earlier he had been given assurances that world football's governing body FIFA was considering an exceptional measure to require European clubs to free up Japanese players for the Copa, despite their guest status.
