I feel very proud of my achievements and successes with the senior football team. I am also pleased that last year the Team scored 5 goals against arch-rivals East Bengal, a never before performance in the history of the Club. This coming Saturday yet another marvellous chapter is gonna be written in the tumultous and immortal rivalry of the two most successful clubs in Bengal history East Bengal and Mohun Bagan as the return leg of their I league is gonna be contested at the Yubha Bharati Krirangan better known as the Saltlake Stadium. The Kolkata Derby will kick off 5.00 PM IST.
The legacy of this match carries decades back and over the years unforgettable matches have taken place in numerous competitions among these two sides and each of them have dominated over the other at a certain period of time.
On the day of a Kolkata Derby, the city of joy no longer retains the tag but instead turns into a city of competition, a city of rivalry, a city divided into two sects namely the Bangals and the Ghotis cheering with their full force to earn the Bragging Rights over the other. This match has created many legends of the years, given birth to many heroes and have helped to identify many leaders. East Bengal started off with a flyer in the I League winning six games in a row and conceding no goals with victories over Dempo, Salgaocar, JCT being the hallmarks of their bright performance.
The start was brought to a halt by the minnows Mumbai Fc who for the first time found the East Bengal net and held the mighty red and yellow brigade to earn a point each.In the next six games East Bengal drew three matches against the defending champions Churchill Brothers, the ever rising Chirag United and their arch nemesis Mohun Bagan but were victorious against Pune Fc, Hal and Viva Kerala. As a result of this frustrating draws East Bengal lost ground in being the early pace setters to the I league and gifted their place to Salgaocar dropping to third. Tolgey have been the main inspiration for them in the attack while Sanju Pradhan has done a tremendous job in rejuvenating the midfield and Okpara have been a rock in the back for them all season long and the return of the I league after the Ifa shield has seen them again perform with the intensity of an intent as tolgey struck a treble against Air India.
On the other hand Mohun Bagan began the campaign in the worst possible way being held in their opening match by Pune Fc, losing the next two games against HAL and Churchill Brothers and again drawing in their fourth match against Dempo. But finally the Mariners somehow kept the fate of their sinking boat alive by back to back victories against JCT and Mumbai Fc. But the pangs of inconsistency again struck the camp when they lost against Viva Kerala and Chirag United before winning against ONGC , Salgaocar and AIFF XI . After the dissapointment of the Ifa shield being so close yet so far in retaining the prestigious Shield it was expected that the Mohun Bagan would reclaim their vigour in the remaining matches of their campaign but again they were held by the minnows Mumbai Fc. The absence of their inspiration Barretto have hurt their attack tremendously but Chidi Edeh , Manish Maithani have provided the goals to cover up for their star striker. As the current table stands East Bengal are in the third position twelve points ahead of Mohun Bagan who are lying sixth in the table. The current scenario means even if Mohun Bagan beats East Bengal in the Kolkata Derby the result wont be of much significance but the weight of this fixture doesnt allow any team to think of losing because of the prestige attached to it. In the first meeting this season goals from Sanju Pradhan and Barretto were enough to calm the tie but it remains to be seen what more is about to be written in the chapter of the epic rivalry between these two teams when they clash this Saturday to prove their rage of dominance in Kolkata.

There were no upsets on Day 2 of the UCL as both Manchester United and Barcelona did justice
to their current domestic forms and won their respective matches at the European Stage.
While Manchester United scored a crucial away goal victory at Stamford Bridge over Chelsea,
Barcelona thumped Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 at Camp Nou.
Wayne Rooney shone at the big stage yet again as he scored in the 24th minute for Man U. The evergreen Ryan Giggs picked up a good cross-field ball from Michael Carrick, went passed Jose Bosingwa in his first touch and essayed a minus to Rooney, whose shot went in off the post. Post conceding, Chelsea showed more urgency in attack but created few clear cut chances. Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres combined well, but failed to find an equalizer as Torres efforts first hit the post and later brought out a splendid finger tips save from Edwin Van Der Sar. Carlo Ancelottis last throw of the dice to bring in Nicholas Anelka and Florent Malouda with 20 mins remaining did not yield benefits either as all of Chelseas efforts towards goal got rebuffed at the hands of Van Der Sar. Manchester United now go to the return leg match at Old Trafford being clear favourites on the basis of the crucial away goal scored by Rooney. Fernando Torres continues his goal drought for Chelsea as luck eluded him again. Barcelona made short work of Shakhtar Donetsk at Camp Nou and virtually set up a semi-final clash with Real Madrid. Shakhtar will rue the number of chances they missed in the first half, which if converted, might have made the encounter more interesting than it eventually was. Andres Iniesta, Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Seydou Kieta and Xavi Hernandez scored for Barca while Yaroslav Rakitskiy pulled one back for the Ukranians. Shakhtar started well, and played the slick passing game Barca is known for, but a sudden spurt from Lionel Messi saw the Ukranian clubs defense in ruins as Iniesta picked up the ball and scored with just 2 mins on the clock. This did not daunt Shakhtar and they continued with their passing game and missed a host of chances. William and Luiz Adriano failed to put away their opportunities as Lionel Messi increasingly tried to bring Barca back into the game. A splitting pass from Iniesta found Dani Alves, who calmly scored and increased Barcas lead. Barcelona started the second half well and Pique scored of a Xavi assist just eight minutes in the half. Shakhtar had its moment of glory eventually when Rakitskiy scored of a Darijo Srna free-kick at the hour mark but their spurt was short lived as Messi fed Keita for Barcas fourth within a minute of the goal. Xavi wrapped up things at the end with Barcas fifth, which all but finished Shakhtars hopes of a comeback in the second leg. 05.04.2011: Real Madrid 4 - 0 Tottenham (FT)
