After a month of International break and with the completion of the IFA shield the I league finally returned with the remaining fixtures still left to be played and the climax of the exciting season yet to be written. It was a clash of the two M's in I league as the fifth placed Mumbai FC went head to head with the sixth placed Mohun Bagan who were looking for a salvation after their IFA shield heartbreak against Churchill Brothers. The match began on a high note for Mumbai FC who were looking for a quick lead. Mumbai FC started to craft well executed moves the architect being Abhishek Yadav who was looking the most active causing Biswajit Saha problems in the first fifteen minutes. Mumbai FC almost took the lead in the 18mins when their two strikers combined but Henry missing a glorious chance from 6 yards but credit should be given to Sangram Mukherjee for a terrific stop. After the chance Mohun Bagan started to play with lot more vigour and with a counter attack their main predator Chidi Edeh missed a good chance but he couldn’t capitalise on a cross from Satish Kumar .The mariners were unlucky in the 28mins when cross from Chidi to Ashim Biswas hit the post and went out. Thus the scoreline remained the same with none of the sides getting a breakthrough as such. The second half began and still the tie waited to get a first goal. In the 51mins Sukore scored and started to celebrate but the offside flag spoiled his celebrations. Till the 70mins the match was passing through a boring phase as the two sides failed to create any positive attack. But towards the end Mumbai FC wanted to get the decisive goal but Sukore was unlucky as his head sailed over the Mohun Bagan goalpost in 73 mins and in 75mins a shot from Sukore was well replied with excellent reflexes from Sangram Mukherjee.Towards the end the Mohun Bagan players became restless due to the lack of creativity in the Second half. Lalampuia got sent off for an without ball leg push on Karan Atwal in 89mins and sent off. The tie ended with points being shared and Mohun Bagan rejecting the golden chance to get past Mumbai fc in the I League still waiting for the hangover of the IFA shield final to pass and get the spirit to win in their remaining I League ties. Mumbai FC defender Ivan's Quao declared man of the match today. It was a night to forget for Subrata Bhattacharya and his boys as Chirag United was muzzled at the hands of Dempo. The match started with Dempo looking the stronger of the two and Ranty Martins gave them a dream start when he scored in the 13 mins. The goal was an outcome of a howler from the Chirag keeper Somnath Khara as the cross from Ranty Martins went directly into the goal. As the first half progressed Ranty martins was looking more and more deadly and almost doubled the lead when a Beto shot deflected from the fist of Somnath Khara went into the path of Ranty but this time the Chirag goalkeeper made amends of his first mistake and stopped the ball with a great double stop. But again the Chirag defence due to their sloppyness gave away a penalty when Ranty Martins was fouled by Chika Wali in 28mins.The spot kick was successfully converted by Beto as Dempo was leading 2-0 .Dempo wasn't finished there as they kept on hunting for the third goal and a shot from Climax Lawrence just went over the bar in 33mins.The match looking one sided than ever was brought to life in 38mins when Shankar Orao scored and pulled one back for Chirag United. But again Dempo maintained their two goal when Peter Carvalho scored in the added time of the first half thus making the first half a goal feast to remember. The second half started with constant raiding of the Chirag defence which was l ooking shaky by Ranty Martins and Beto .But the drama of the tie which gave four goals in the first half continued as Chirag United earned a penalty and the Indian star striker Sunil Chetri scoring from the spot marking his 50th goal in the I league witha style. But the dramatic comeback of Chirag United was spoiled b the man of the night for Dempo Ranty Martins who scored his second goal and the fourth for Dempo in the 74th minute. Thus the tie ended with Dempo earning all three points and Ranty martins proving once again why he is the top marksman in the current Indian football scenario and Chirag United will be waiting for a reply to move on from this defeat in their remaining I League matches.
